| Description | Image of Civil war veteran and Hopkinton Grand Army of the Republic member Alonzo E. Foss. Type written label indicates he was a member of Co. A. 5th Maine Infantry. He wears a dress coat and is adorned with moustache, hat and G.A.R. medals. Hopkinton formed a charter named for Charles C. Phillips in 1882 and met regularly on Church Steet till the group disbanded around 1829. His was one of 35 photographs framed together and displayed in the Hopkinton Public Library until 2011. Note G.A.R. membership badge with wreath is on his hat, lapel medal has eagle, American flag ribbon and G.A.R. 5 pointed star. |
