| Description | Portrait photographs of James Draper, Ebenezer D. Draper and George Draper from the book Five Generations of Loom Builders: A History of the Draper Corporation by William H. Chase. These were the three sons of Ira Draper who played an important role in the establishment of the Hopedale Community and the Draper Corporation. James Draper inherited the rights to Ira Draper's patents, including the Self-Acting Loom Temple, and was selling Draper products as early as 1830. Ebenezer D. Draper was Rev. Adin Ballou's right hand man in the Hopedale Community, an Utopian Community that blended industry and religion, and brought Ira Draper's patents to the community to use in the shops. These products became a major part of the financial support for the community. George Draper joined the Hopedale Community in 1853, and in 1856 convinced Ebenezer, then president of the community, to withdraw the investments made by these products and forge the beginnings of the Draper Corporation. The withdrawal of their support led to the collapse of the Hopedale community in 1856. |
